An electrical expert witness and licensed forensic electrical engineer for attorneys and insurers who need to know what failed, why it failed, and whether the opinion will hold up.
Party names are what the check runs against. Nothing privileged is requested.
Ohm Forensics provides electrical expert witness and forensic electrical engineering services in litigation, arbitration, and insurance claims. We are retained by plaintiff and defense counsel, carriers, and owners when the outcome turns on a technical question: did an electrical system or piece of equipment fail, what made it fail, and did the design, installation, maintenance, or operation meet the codes and standards that applied.
If your question belongs to another discipline, such as fire origin and cause, metallurgy, or human factors, we say so at the start and work alongside that expert. An opinion that stays inside the discipline is harder to attack.
Transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, inverters, UPS systems, and generators, with defect, misuse, and maintenance theories tested against the physical evidence.
Whether an electrical failure caused or contributed to the loss, including wiring, panels, appliances, and equipment. We work alongside the origin and cause investigator and do not perform origin and cause determinations.
Electrocution, shock, and arc flash incidents, including grounding, bonding, protection, and work practice questions.
Substations, solar, battery storage, EV charging, microgrids, and data center power, including EPC, interconnection, delay, and performance claims.
Drawings, specifications, NEC and local code compliance, and the standard of care for electrical engineers and contractors.
Claim construction support and infringement and validity analysis for electrical and energy technology.
Site and evidence examination under a protocol agreed with the parties. We document the equipment, settings, and damage pattern, and identify what needs a preservation letter before it is repaired, reset, or discarded.
Fault and load calculations, protection and coordination review, code and standards research, and review of drawings, maintenance records, and event data. Competing explanations are tested against the evidence, including the ones the retaining party would prefer not to hear.
A written report that states the method, the data relied on, and the basis for each opinion, so every conclusion can be traced and defended under Rule 702 and Daubert or the state equivalent. Where a preliminary oral opinion is all you need, the work stops there.
Deposition and trial testimony that explains the engineering in plain language. We also prepare rebuttal analysis of opposing expert reports and cross-examination outlines for counsel.
The work is led by a licensed Professional Engineer with an MBA and more than twenty years in power systems. That career was spent designing and reviewing the kinds of systems that end up in dispute: utility substations from 4 kV to 345 kV, utility-scale solar and battery storage plants, EV charging installations, and medium voltage distribution for large data centers, along with protection and coordination, fault current, and arc flash studies.
The engineering practice is still active. Opinions rest on current codes, current equipment, and current utility practice, which matters when opposing counsel asks when the expert last designed the thing being testified about.
An origin and cause investigator determines where a fire started and what ignited it. We do not perform origin and cause determinations. Our role is the electrical engineering question inside that investigation: whether the wiring, equipment, or protection failed, whether that failure is consistent with the physical evidence, and whether the installation met code. In most fire losses the two experts work together.
As early as the evidence allows. Electrical evidence is fragile: breakers get reset, equipment gets replaced, relay and inverter event logs are overwritten, and utility records age out. Early involvement usually costs less than reconstructing what was lost.
A preliminary review is scoped as a fixed block of hours with a not-to-exceed amount and ends with an oral opinion. A written report is prepared only if you authorize it. The rate schedule and CV are sent the same business day you ask.
Yes. Rebuttal work is a regular part of the practice. We work through the opposing analysis, separate the conclusions the evidence supports from the ones it does not, and provide a written rebuttal or a consulting memo and cross-examination outline, depending on how you intend to use it.
Party names, the nearest deadline, and a short description of the loss. Nothing privileged is requested, and submitting the form does not create an engagement.
No engagement, no cost. If we are conflicted or this is not the right discipline for your question, we will say so.
